4 days exploring Lapland Finland, staying in quirky accommodation with front row seats of the northern lights.
After an incredible trip to Iceland in 2015 where we unfortunately missed seeing the northern lights due to cloudy skies, we knew we had to try again.
Finland had always been a place we’d spoken about, possibly due to the videos of glass igloo accommodation which had exploded on social media, and after some more research into areas with the highest chances of seeing the northern lights we were sold on Ivalo in Lapland.
We booked 1x night in a glass igloo (which mainly came down to the price), but also managed to find a really cool quirky glamping cabin (on ski’s!), which we booked for 2x nights.
The next step was deciding when to go and in the end we settled on easter weekend for 3 reasons;
- Easter fell not long after the Spring equinox (20 March), when there are higher chances of seeing the northern lights.
- We wanted to visit when there was snow, & were also keen to get in some skiing/snowboarding.
- The 4 day weekend meant we didn’t have to use any of our annual leave days.
